You and I are among the most fortunate people in the world. We have access to computers, the ability to read and write, and - although it may not feel like it as retailers scramble to cash in on your wedding - plenty of extra money to spend on life's luxuries.
For me, the launch of Bridal Toolbox was like a dream come true. I've always wanted to start my own business, and although I didn't have much to begin with, there was never any question that I'd be able to pull it all together if I really put my mind to it.
Dreams vs. reality
The thought of having a dream like that and not having the resources to make it happen saddens me. I'm sure there are a lot of intelligent, entrepreneurial people around the world who, for want of an education and a bit of cash, are unable to experience the excitement of their first - or their ten-thousandth - sale.
One of the highlights for me as founder of Bridal Toolbox is not just to celebrate your new beginnings in marriage, and my new beginnings in business, but also to help others make new beginnings in their own lives.
My commitment
So for every website subscription Bridal Toolbox sells - be it the first or the ten-thousandth - I am committed to donating 10% of the sales value towards the TEAR Fund microenterprise program. Microenterprise provides small loans to entrepreneurs in developing countries who otherwise would be unable to raise the capital needed to free themselves and their families from the cycle of poverty. You can read more about how it works on the TEAR Fund website.
How about you?
If you've purchased one of our wedding websites, you've already made a difference. If not, what are you waiting for?! But seriously, I hope you'll consider the possibility of matching my generosity with a small donation of your own. Not necessarily to TEAR Fund, and not necessarily right now. Just think about it - it's a great way to celebrate a new business, or a new marriage.
Here's to new beginnings!
